We know that this is a difficult time for all, including our friends and colleagues all over the world. However, it is important that no matter what is going on, and as troubling as life can be, we must have HOPE, as HOPE has motivated humans in the past to deal with adversity.
Think of FDR during the great depression when he spoke in 1932 and said, There is nothing to fear than fear itself. Remember Mahatma Gandhi's Do or Die Speech in 1942 when he launched the non-violent Quit India movement to demand India's freedom from the 200-year British colonial rule. Of course, we all remember Dr. Martin Luther King, when in 1963 he gave his very famous, I Have a Dream Speech. And just last week, a major hero of the civil rights movement in the United States, Congressman John Lewis of Georgia, passed away. Here is what he wrote in 1998: I was so inspired by Dr. King that in 1956 with my brothers and sisters and first cousins, I was only 16 years old, we went down to the public library trying to check out some books and we were told by the librarian that the library was for whites only and not for colors! It was a public library! I never went back to that public library until July 5th, 1998, by this time I'm in the Congress, for a book signing of my book "Walking with the Wind.
